COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A tragic house fire east of Douglas claimed one life Thursday afternoon.

According to Douglas Now, at around 2 p.m., the Coffee County firefighters were called to a structure fire at a home on Bobcat Trail. Officials say the fire spread rapidly, and within minutes the house was fully engulfed.

Two people were inside the home when the fire broke out. One occupant managed to escape, but the other was unable to get out in time. Firefighters battled the blaze and first responders closed off part of Bobcat Trail while crews worked the scene.

The surviving occupant was taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment.
