JONES COUNTY, Ga — A house fire started just after 11:00 p.m. Thursday on Bethune Avenue and Ruby Drive in Jones County.

According to Division Chief Gary Harrell, crews went to check out the scene with five to ten minutes before the first unit arrived, about five minutes later.

The house, which sits on the corner of the two streets, was fully involved. Harrell says the front of the house was untouched by the flames, with the bulk of the fire consuming the side and back.

Crews were on the scene for about six hours, working to put out the fire.

Harrell says the structure is an older home with multiple add-ons, which include multiple roofs connecting the newer and older parts. That created voids for the fire, according to the chief, where one roof would be on fire, but the roof under it was not.

Despite a few hotspots, crews got the fire under control and did multiple walkthroughs before leaving.

They were called back to Ruby Drive at 8:00 a.m. Harrell said he was "expecting a much smaller area on the back side to catch back on fire," because of fallen debris. But this time, the front of the house was experiencing heavy fire.

While WGXA was on the scene, crews were still working to extinguish hot spots.

According to Harrell, one person was in the home at the time of the fire and was able to exit with no problem.
