AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) — A person is dead after being hit by a train in Americus.

The police chief confirms the incident was discovered sometime Friday morning (Sept. 25) in the railroad switch yard on McGarrah Street. It’s not clear precisely what time the person was hit.

Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene as well as police.

At this time, officials have not been able to identify the victim.
