CINCINNATI (WKRC) — An aggravated murder indictment is now in place against the man accused of intentionally running down a Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy with his car.
The charges carry the possibility of the death penalty.
"I can only tell you that I've never seen someone hunted down and killed like this," said Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich.
Pillich shared several slides on Thursday, detailing when and where Hinton was before retired Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Henderson was hit and killed. She said that Hinton arrived at the Cincinnati Police Department at 9:33 a.m. on May 2 to review an officer-involved shooting involving his 18-year-old son, Ryan.
Ryan was running from police with a gun in his hand when an officer opened fire Thursday.
At 9:51 a.m., Pillich said Hinton was so upset he left the building.
"At 10:37, so almost 50 minutes later, the family that was with him comes out of the building, and they all leave in one car," said Pillich.
Pillich says Hinton was taken to a family member's home after going to Findlay Market. He took a 30-minute nap and then returned to pick up his car at 12:41 p.m.
She says Hinton would leave before returning five minutes later and driving through the police department parking lot.
"His family is still following him. At 12:50, he leaves and drives up Clifton Avenue. His family is still following him," said Pillich.
Evidence shows Hinton driving east on Martin Luther King Drive near Burnett Woods Drive. Deputy Henderson was directing traffic in the area for UC's graduation.
That's when Pillich says Hinton stopped in an unused center lane.
"At 1:05 p.m., Hinton floors the vehicle, crossing into the opposing traffic lanes, and drives directly at Deputy Henderson and hits him," said Pillich. "The family, keep in mind, is watching all this happen."
Pillich said Hinton put other lives at risk. There were a lot of people walking around due to graduation.
Rodney Hinton Jr. is housed in the Clermont County Jail for his own safety. He is held without bond.
Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey called for people to "let justice play out."
