LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. — A Florida couple said they lost their unborn child following a March 20 crash involving a Lowndes County school bus.
Sierra Johnson and Kasen Millwood said Johnson was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center after the collision, where an emergency C-section was performed. Their son, Mason Lane Millwood, did not survive.
“We ended up losing our baby due to a collision involving a bus driver ran a sign,” Millwood said.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:05 p.m. at the intersection of Howell Road and Inner Perimeter Road in Lowndes County, according to Georgia State Patrol. Troopers said the school bus was stopped at the stop sign on Howell Road, facing east. A black Hyundai SUV was traveling south on Inner Perimeter Road, approaching the intersection.
The preliminary investigation revealed the bus driver failed to yield while entering the roadway. The SUV struck the front driver’s side of the bus. Both drivers were transported to the hospital.
Parents say they want answers. Johnson and Millwood said they were traveling in separate vehicles, heading home to Florida. Millwood works in Alma, Georgia.
“I look back and I see her. And the next second, I don’t,” Millwood said. “I had made a very halting stop and turned around and there was just pieces and she was already out on the ground.”
Johnson said she knew something was wrong immediately after the crash.

“My belly was on fire,” Johnson said. “I felt like I was dying. And I was just laid on the road and asked everybody who’s near me to help me. And that I’m pregnant, and, like, please save my baby.”
Johnson said doctors called for an emergency C-section when the baby’s heart rate dropped.
“Our baby was no longer with us,” Millwood said.
The couple said their son was due July 12, 2026.
“We just want justice, and we want answers for our baby boy and why his life had to come to such an abrupt end,” Millwood said.
Johnson and Millwood said they have not been contacted by the Lowndes County School system. They said initial reports about the crash indicated no one was injured.
“We’ve seen plenty of incident reports about the accident. No one, in just about every report, no one has been injured in its statements,” Millwood said. “And, I mean, we’ve lost one.”
The couple said Trooper Gadsden has been in contact with them about the investigation. A DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer assisted with the crash investigation.
A GoFundMe has been created for the family.
