Alex Perez, the Porter Elementary School Intake Clerk, told WGXA the event is designed to create a sense of belonging for students of different cultural backgrounds.
"It's important because it promotes diversity... but also a sense of belonging as well," said Perez. "Our school has a high population of Hispanics, and so we like to include most of our students and make them feel included."
Hispanic Heritage Month is observed nationally every year from September 15 to October 15. It is an additional opportunity to honor and celebrate the contributions of Latinos and Latinas throughout the history of the United States.
