MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) -A community-funded reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a deadly unsolved Mitchell County hit-and-run continues to grow.

The family of Amos Anderson announced Friday the total reward fund has risen to $1,700.

On September 20, 2024, an unknown driver struck and killed 88-year-old Anderson on Mount Olive Rd. At the time, Anderson was doing yard work in front of his home.

The impact of the crash knocked Anderson into a ditch where he was discovered dead.

In almost a year since his death, investigators have worked to find the driver responsible, but so far, no arrests have been made.

However, authorities collected forensic evidence from the scene that leads them to believe the vehicle involved may be medium metallic gray in color that likely sustained damage to the front passenger side headlight area.

Investigators initially believed the vehicle could be a late 90s Chevrolet Silverado or a 90s Ford Ranger, Bronco, or Explorer. However, they also don’t rule out the following vehicles as having been driven by the perpetrator:

  • 1998-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
  • 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue
  • 2004 Chevrolet Malibu
  • 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
  • 1998-2007 Chevrolet Silverado
  • 1998-2007 GMC Sierra

Investigators have said they believe evidence shows the hit-and-run driver had been traveling east on Mount Olive Rd. when Anderson was struck. However, after the deadly crash, authorities believe the driver sped away from the scene headed west.

Authorities need leads in the case. If you remember spotting a damaged vehicle last September that could have been involved or think you have any information about Anderson’s death, please call the Georgia State Patrol at (229) 931-7000 or the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department at (229) 336-2032.
