Description
MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - There is a $1,000 reward being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the driver who struck and killed Amos Anderson on September 20, 2024.
88-year-old Anderson was doing yard work in front of his home on Mount Olive Road nearly 10 months ago when he was fatally struck by a vehicle.
“It’s been hard the last few months. It’s been very hard. I could not have made it without my kids. My boys and girls, they all have helped me out so much,” said Mary Anderson, his wife.
Officials say Anderson’s body was left in a ditch on the side of the road, and the driver involved in this hit-and-run still has not been found.
“His hat was left in the road, and you left him in a ditch without even a phone call to call help for him. You didn’t do nothing to try and help. What if he was still alive? What if that was your father out there? What would you do?” asked Ann Bond, Anderson’s daughter.
Law enforcement went door-to-door looking for surveillance footage but were unsuccessful.
The driver was allegedly headed east at the time of the incident, but after fatally hitting Anderson, the driver reversed and went back west.
GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team believes that the vehicle that the suspect was driving is a late 90s Chevrolet Silverado or a 90s Ford make of either a Ranger, Bronco, or Explorer. GSP notes that there will be damage to the front passenger side headlight area.
After analysis of the victim’s clothing, GSP is now looking for the potential vehicles listed below in gray color.
- 1998-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
- 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue
- 2004 Chevrolet Malibu
- 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
- 1998-2007 Chevrolet Silverado
- 1998-2007 GMC Sierra
Now, the Anderson family is desperately seeking justice and closure.
Mitchell County Chief Deputy Terry Hayes says, “Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with the Anderson family. We understand how hard this must be. We have seen them multiple times on many occasions, and this is a hard thing to deal with. They’re in our thoughts and prayers, and we ask the community to continue thinking of them as well.”
The $1,000 for the reward money was anonymously donated by a community member. If you would like to contribute to the reward fund, you can email [email protected] for more information.
“Well, I hope we can find somebody that would talk, because we know this is a small town. We know that somebody out there knows something,” said Lisa Anderson, Amos Anderson’s daughter-in-law.
