Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A stolen password database used to facilitate unauthorized bank transfers worth more than $28 million to victims has been seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to a press release, the domain ‘web3adspanel.org’ was used by those involved to store bank login credentials. This comes shortly after the FBI issued an announcement related to account takeover fraud.

The affidavit filed in support of the domain seizure stated that the parties involved in this scheme delivered fraudulent advertisements through search engines. The fraudulent advertisements routed customers to what seemed to be legitimate banking websites that prompted customers to enter their login credentials. Once login credentials were entered, their information was stolen.

The FBI has reportedly identified at least 19 victims. Since January 2025, the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center has received more than 5,100 complaints, reporting bank account fraud with $262 million in losses.

Officials warn everyone to stay vigilant by keeping track of their bank accounts and using the bookmarks or favorites tool for navigating login websites.

The FBI is continuing to investigate this case.
