Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Salvation Army partnered with a local church Thursday to serve Thanksgiving meals to those in need, continuing a tradition that has lasted more than two decades.
Betty Wright and her Serving Saints from Saints of God House of Worship Church served meals for the 21st consecutive year at the Salvation Army of Albany. Wright said the volunteers chose to spend their holiday helping others.
“We knew that there are people that are in need, and their needs are way greater than ours and that’s what we do,” Wright said. “We want to do what the word of God says, to feed those that are in need, and that’s what we do.”
Those in need were able to get as much food as they wanted, including banana pudding and red velvet cake. Chris Powell, captain of the Albany Salvation Army, said he is grateful to partner with the church.
“You can’t do that by yourself,” Powell said. “As they used to say, it takes a community to raise a child. It takes a community to help those who are in need.”
The Salvation Army and Saints of God House of Worship want everyone to know this holiday season that they will always be available to help.
