Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Saturday will bring near record warmth with highs in the low 80s, but a strong cold front will bring showers and isolated strong-to-severe storms through the afternoon. The pattern then shifts dramatically Sunday as NW winds usher in much colder, drier air dropping highs to the 50s.

Saturday: Warm with Storm Potential

Don’t be fooled by the warm start to your weekend. While Saturday morning begins with mild 60s, near record temperatures climb into the low 80s. Albany’s record high is 81°. Showers will develop and isolated strong-to-severe storms are possible through the afternoon hours. Areas west of I-75 are outlined in a Marginal Risk with threats of damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

If you’re planning outdoor activities, keep an eye on the sky and have a way to receive weather alerts. Storms could produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Make sure to bring an umbrella or have a plan to move indoors if storms develop in your area.

Sunday: Much Colder and Drier

The weather pattern flips completely Sunday as colder, drier air moves in behind the system. Expect much cooler conditions with highs only in the 50s — a dramatic 20-30-degree drop from Saturday. Although breezy, Sunday will be a great day to catch up on outdoor chores or activities that don’t require warm weather, but you’ll definitely want to grab a jacket.

What You Need to Do

  • Saturday: Monitor weather alerts for storm timing and impacts. Have a plan to seek shelter if storms develop in your area.
  • Sunday: Bundle up — it will feel much colder despite the dry conditions.

Next week lows drop to and below freezing upper 20s low 30s while highs top low-mid 50s. Seasonably cool on Wednesday lows upper 30s and highs low 30s.

Expect a reinforcing push of colder air as another cold front slides through on Thursday. Stay warm and bundled up!
