Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany Police Department is urging residents to be aware of ongoing scams across Dougherty County.
Residents should be aware of a phone scam targeting the Albany community, according to the Albany Police Department.
Scammers are calling, creating urgency and pressuring people to send money or share sensitive information, police said.
How to protect yourself
Albany Police want residents to remember the following:
- Legitimate organizations will never demand payment by gift cards or wire transfer
- They will not pressure you to act immediately
- They will not ask for personal information like your Social Security number or bank details
- If you think you have been targeted, report it
Residents can report scams at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/
