ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A man was shot and killed while trying to break up a fight at an Acworth bar on Saturday morning, according to the city’s police department.

Daniel Parsons, a 25-year-old from Douglasville, faces charges of felony murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Police were called to Saddle Bar off Cowan Road at around 2:40 a.m., where they found the victim. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Officers found Parsons nearby on Baker Road and arrested him. He was taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.

Police have not identified the victim yet.

In its own statement, the Western-style bar, which just opened on Feb. 20, said the man who died was a security guard who stepped in to protect a woman being assaulted in the parking lot. According to management, he was shot in the back while walking away after handling the situation.

“Our entire Saddlebar team is grieving the loss of a brave individual who put himself in harm’s way to protect someone else. His courage and selflessness will not be forgotten,” management said. “Our deepest prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Saddle Bar will be closed for the rest of the weekend. Management said they are also making a donation to the victim’s family.
