TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - Tift County High School senior Davie’on Dixon has found a way to excel both in the classroom and on the football field, maintaining a 4.0 GPA while playing varsity football for three years.

The running back and slot receiver said his academic success comes from completing schoolwork during the day.

“It just comes naturally,” Dixon said. “It’s just hard work. I put my head down and keep grinding. Normally, after school I usually don’t have any work because I do it during the school day.”

Dixon said he hopes to continue his football career in college, but plans to study business whether he plays college ball or not. After graduation, he wants to start his own business or take over his father’s cleaning company.

“[Dixon’s father] has his own cleaning company, and I see how hard he works and really just how much it works for him,” Dixon said.

This senior season holds special meaning for Dixon, who gets to play alongside his younger brother, Tift County’s starting quarterback.

“I mean, it’s kind of an honor. I don’t really hear a lot of people do it, but you know, it’s normal for us. We’ve been playing together since rec ball, and now we are just in high school with it. I love playing with my brother,” Dixon said.

Head coach Jeff Littleton said Dixon’s classroom discipline carries over to the football field.

“Davie’on is a hard worker on and off the field. How you do one thing is how you do everything, so Davie’on takes care of business in the classroom as well as taking care of business on the field,” Littleton said.

Congratulations to Davie’on Dixon for being recognized as this week’s Valdosta State Scholar Athlete!
