ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Shoppers across metro Atlanta are stocking up on essential items for the possible winter storm expected to hit this weekend.
“I got a lot of canned goods and tomato products to make a big pot of soup,” said Pat Turner.
The winter weather system is expected to bring icy conditions across the state.
Bethany Miller said she’s taking the potential for severe weather seriously.
“Definitely stocking up on essentials. Make sure you have stuff to keep warm. Stay entertained, cause the kids will be in the house with you instead of going to school,” Miller said.
As for the roads, state and Atlanta transportation officials are getting salt spreaders and brine trucks ready to roll.
Gov. Brian Kemp posted a video on X on Wednesday, urging people to stock up on food and fill up on gas.
“As always, our state team will be pretreating - preparing for the worst and hoping for the best,” Kemp said in the video.
But some people, like Turner, plan to stay home this weekend.

Turner said she made the mistake of going out during Atlanta’s “Snowmageddon” winter storm in 2014.
“I had not been paying attention to the news, so I went to a party, and on the way home, I was stuck on I-20 for about 6 hours,” Turner said.
