(Gray News) - Six Flags has temporarily closed nine roller coasters across six amusement parks after police say a person was killed and several others were injured in an incident involving a coaster in Georgia.
Witnesses say a man fell to his death late Monday afternoon from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Cobb County. Several riders were stuck on the coaster after the deadly incident, WANF reports.
Neither Cobb County Police nor Six Flags officials have said what happened nor identified anyone involved. The park was closed after the incident.
In the aftermath, Six Flags has closed nine other roller coasters across six amusement parks that are similar to the coaster involved in the incident at Six Flags Over Georgia.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks. The safety of our guests and team members remains one of our highest priorities,” Six Flags said.
The rides closed include Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America in Illinois, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California.
Roller coasters were also closed at Ohio’s Kings Island, North Carolina’s Carowinds and Canada’s Wonderland in Ontario. All three parks are owned by Six Flags.
