STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) -A rare snowfall across coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry gave students at Georgia Southern University the chance to enjoy a winter wonderland Tuesday.
Cold temperatures did not keep students from coming together and enjoying their snow day. GSU students bundled up and braced the elements.
From snowball fights to snow angels and sledding, students made the most of the rare snowfall. Several students said they had never seen snow before, and for those students, the day felt magical.
“We love the snow we like to embrace our inner child I feel like,” said Matthew Amerine, a GSU student.
“This is only my second time like really being in the snow so I think its really cool, I’m kind of foreign to it but I’m loving it,” said Jamara Smith, a GSU freshman.
While campus was shut down, GSU police made their rounds to ensure student safety. Officers said they were trying to make sure students were still having fun, but with safety precautions in mind.
