LEE COUNTY/SHELLMAN, Ga. (WALB) - A 7-year-old boy whose mother and sister died in a wrong-way crash Wednesday night has died today from his injuries.

The Randolph County School System released the following statement:

Jaxton Spann died after being hospitalized following the Jan. 14 crash on US-82 that killed his mother, 32-year-old Bernerdine Spann, and his sister, 13-year-old Ja’Leah Spann.

The boy was removed from the vehicle and airlifted to a hospital where he had been receiving care since the crash.

James Spann, Jaxton’s father, posted on Facebook saying, “prayers prayers prayers as Jaxton Dontrez Spann transition over to be with his mom and sister.”

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 41-year-old Sherita Goddard is suspected of driving under the influence when her Hyundai Tucson struck the westbound Honda Accord.

Goddard and a passenger, believed to be her daughter, were both injured and hospitalized. Their conditions have not been reported.
