GEORGIA (WALB) - A South Georgia man says he and more than 100 skydivers, representing more than 20 counties, have set a new world record.

Chris Gay co-organized and engineered a jump with 104 skydivers falling into formation on Saturday over the skies of Central Florida.

Gay says three world-record judges on site confirmed the group set the new record.

The previous world record involving 100 skydivers in formation was set by Gay and fellow skydivers in 2007.

Gay says preparing for the event had a tremendous impact on all who participated.

“When we have an event like this, it’s the journey. And so many people changed their lifestyle, the way they ate. The way they exercised, the way they slept. They got into much better shape than they have been in 10 or 20 years. So, a lot of people are claiming that that’s one of the big things for the event. It made them have a healthier outlook on life. It changed their way of living,” Gay told WALB News 10.

Gay, born in Moultrie and raised in Albany, started skydiving back in 1986 when attending Georgia Tech.
