DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) – The Terrell County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) has apprehended a suspect who fled the scene of a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Highway 520 near mile marker eight in Dawson Tuesday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the tractor-trailer was injured during the crash and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies learned that the suspect, who was driving a white service van, ran into a nearby wood line before law enforcement could secure the area.

After further investigation, officials learned that the van the suspect was driving had been reported stolen out of Columbus, Georgia.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a black shirt and khaki pants. He was last seen heading north along Highway 45 near Scrap Israel Road and Billy Strong Road.

Residents in the area were encouraged to use caution and to notify authorities if they noticed any suspicious people or activities. The Terrell County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 229-995-4488. Individuals were also encouraged to dial 911 for emergencies.

TCSO said that several agencies were involved with the search for the suspect. Those agencies are the Dawson Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit and the Georgia Department of Corrections K9 Unit, according to TCSO.
