CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) — The suspect in a Cordele shooting incident fled before officers arrived at the scene on Wednesday, May 6, according to the Cordele Police Department (CPD). One man reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds, but he is recovering, officials said.
CPD said the incident was Wednesday just after 2:30 p.m. in the 500 block of West 24th Avenue, less than a mile away from Crisp County Elementary School.
The school was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon until investigators determined there was no threat to the area, according to CPD.
No others were injured in this incident, CPD said. The victim was reportedly transported to Crisp Regional Hospital for medical treatment.
CPD did not name the suspect. Officials said that several individuals were temporarily detained in the investigation of this incident, but they were each later released.
This investigation is ongoing, police said.
