GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A manhunt for an armed suspect ended with an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning after the man pointed a gun at law enforcement officers.
William Shane Allen was taken into custody following the shooting on Highway 93 between Wilder Road and Macedonia Church Road shortly after 1 a.m., according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Martin Prince said Allen was shot two or three times and remains in critical condition. He is currently in surgery.
“He pointed a gun at our officers, and our officers took appropriate action and stopped the threat,” Prince said.

Domestic dispute sparked manhunt
The incident began on Wednesday afternoon with a domestic dispute on Stagecoach Road in northern Grady County. Prince said a boyfriend and girlfriend were involved in a car chase when the boyfriend hit the girlfriend’s car several times, causing both vehicles to wreck.
The man then got out of his car and fired four shots at the woman while she was still in her vehicle, striking her once in the shoulder, Prince said. The man then fled on foot.
The woman was treated and released from the hospital on Wednesday.

Multi-agency search
Deputies immediately responded with K-9 units and patrol officers. The Georgia State Patrol provided aviation and patrol support.
The search continued through Wednesday afternoon and into the night. Around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, authorities received an anonymous tip that someone matching the suspect’s description was seen walking on Macedonia Road.
By the time deputies arrived at that location, Allen was gone. But officers from multiple agencies deployed drones and continued searching the area.
Allen was spotted coming out of the edge of a field with his gun raised at officers, Prince said. Shots were fired by Grady County deputies, and Allen was struck.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
Suspect has lengthy criminal history
Prince said Allen has a lengthy criminal history from multiple states, including child molestation, rape, and other violent felonies.
“He’s not a stranger to being in conflict with law enforcement,” Prince said.
Allen faces several felony charges. The investigation is ongoing to determine all applicable charges.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Multi-agency response
Prince thanked the 10 agencies that assisted in the manhunt, which involved approximately 60 to 65 officers total.
Assisting agencies included the U.S. Marshals, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office, Boston Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Pelham Police Department, Georgia State Patrol Patrol and Aviation Division, Motor Carrier Compliance Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the Grady County Volunteer Fire Department.
“Grady County is very blessed to have friends close by that are willing to help us out in the law enforcement community,” Prince said.
Highway 93 remained closed between Wilder Road and Macedonia Road on Thursday morning as the investigation continued.
