COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Department of Corrections is investigating a death at the Lee Correctional Institution.
Authorities say Leo Jermaine Cheeks, an inmate at Lee Correctional Institution, died in the facility Friday night. Cheeks was found unresponsive in his cell. An autopsy will be performed.
Cheeks’ death will be investigated by the Corrections Department’s Inspector General’s office, with assistance from the S.C. Law Enforcement Division’s crime scene unit and the Lee County coroner.
