Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — Valdosta authorities said June 3 that they are grateful for a report of a suspicious vehicle that helped take several drugs off the streets.

On May 28, an E911 call reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Norman Drive. The caller reportedly told police the vehicle had been parked in multiple parking spots for several hours, with the windshield wipers active.

A responding officer found the driver asleep behind the wheel, with a device commonly used for smoking narcotics nearby.

The driver, 39-year-old James Luke Grantham, appeared to be under the influence of some type of drug, according to the officer.

123.5 grams of methamphetamine, 2.3 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 20.3 grams of marijuana, and several pills we found in the vehicle. Money and tools in narcotic sales were also found in the vehicle.

Grantham is charged with the following, according to Valdosta Police:

  • Trafficking methamphetamine - felony
  • Possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute - felony
  • Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute - felony
  • Possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with the intent to distribute - felony
  • Possession of a Schedule II controlled substance - felony
  • Possession of drug-related objects - misdemeanor
  • Drugs not in original container - misdemeanor

“We are grateful that this citizen called 911 when they saw this suspicious vehicle in their parking lot. Then the officers did a great job noticing narcotics paraphernalia, which led them to further investigate. Because of their thoroughness, dangerous narcotics were kept out of our community.”
