COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A man was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats in Coffee County on July 13 after an argument with family reportedly escalated, according to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
The man is 50-year-old Shane Merson, CCSO said. Deputies said that when they first responded to the incident, Merson downplayed the situation, but that further investigation revealed a history of verbal threats from Merson.

CCSO said that witnesses on the scene told deputies that Merson “became aggressive and made threatening remarks that were taken seriously and believed to have been said with intent.”
The sheriff’s office said that Merson was arrested based on several aligning statements and because there were children present at the home during the incident.
It is unclear who the alleged threats were made against.
Merson was charged with one felony count of terroristic threats and acts. He was taken to the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center, according to CCSO.
