NEW ORLEANS (TNND) — One of the last two inmates wanted after escaping from the Orleans Justice Center in May has been captured in the Hollygrove area of New Orleans, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.
Antoine Massey, 32, was one of 10 who escaped through a hole behind a toilet and scaled a barbed-wire fence. The words "To Easy LoL" were seen written on the cell wall in photos.
The last remaining escapee, Derrick Groves, is still on the run.
Massey is charged with domestic abuse involving strangulation and theft of a motor vehicle, according to records. He also has an arrest warrant in St. Tammany Parish for second-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, domestic abuse involving strangulation and violation of a protective order involving battery, USA TODAY reported.
After his arrest, Massey was flown to "a secure state facility outside of the area," the Louisiana State Police said.
"It's the final countdown," Gov. Jeff Landry wrote on X after Massey's arrest.
Groves was convicted of killing two people on Mardi Gras in 2018. He was found to be one of the gunmen who fired an AK-47-style assault rifle.
A reward for their capture increased to $50,000 last month.
Crimestoppers is offering $20,000, the FBI pledged another $20,000 and the ATF added $10,000 to the reward.
Several people have been arrested and charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly helping the inmates.
Sterling Williams, a maintenance worker at the jail, was the first arrest in connection with the escaped inmates.
Williams, 38, admitted to agents that one of the escapees told him to turn the water off in the cell where the inmates escaped from or they would "shank him," according to investigators.
His attorney, Michael Kennedy, told The Associated Press that his client shut off the water to unclog a toilet.
“This was clearly all part of an orchestrated plan,” Kennedy said. Williams “was nothing more than the tool they used to turn off the water, which they knew would have to happen after clogging the toilet.”
He was charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and malfeasance in office. His bond amount was set at $1.1 million, which is $100,000 for each charge he is facing.
Law enforcement didn't learn about the escape until more than seven hours after the men fled the facility at 1 a.m., according to authorities.
