ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On December 9, 1965, the Peanuts classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas” premiered. It quickly became a holiday tradition.

In the story, the iconic Peanuts characters try to put on a Christmas play, but Charlie Brown, the director of the play, gets frustrated with his friends. In the end, he needs Linus’ help to remember the true meaning of Christmas.

The Peanuts creators insisted on using real children’s voices and a jazz music score in the special. These details solidified the movie’s standing as an instant hit.

The special received excellent ratings the night it premiered and went on to earn Peabody and Emmy awards.

Sixty years later, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” airs on American television every year at Christmastime.
