ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — On January 13, 1982, Atlanta Braves star Hank Aaron was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Aaron was a right fielder who played for the Braves from 1966 to 1974. He’s most well-known for beating Babe Ruth’s record for most career home runs. Ruth held that record at 714 for 39 years until Aaron passed him in 1974.

Hank Aaron ended his career after the 1976 season with 755 total home runs.

When the Baseball Writers Association was voting on who to induct in the 1982 Hall of Fame class, Hank Aaron got 97.8 percent of the vote.
