ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Albany police are investigating after a person was reportedly shot at multiple times along the riverfront Sunday afternoon.

According to Albany Police Chief Persley, the incident happened around 4:12 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, in the 100 block of North Front Street.

Police say the victim was running on the trail when someone began firing several shots at them. The victim was not struck and was able to run from the area and get help from someone nearby.

An officer later returned to the area and recovered shell casings. Investigators are also reviewing video footage from the area as they work to identify the person responsible.

Police are asking for the public’s help locating the suspect, who is described as a Black male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 250 to 260 pounds.

The incident is especially concerning for police as the department has recently been discussing ways to improve security along the riverfront trails and park.

Chief Persely is reminding anyone who uses the river trail to carry a cellphone and make sure someone knows where they are. People are also encouraged to avoid using the trail after dark.

Police say they are looking into measures that could help keep people off the trail during nighttime hours.
