Description

WASHINGTON (TNND) — The Department of Justice has announced significant progress in its ongoing operation to dismantle the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, with 2,711 members arrested to date.

Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "Everyone in this room agrees that they are one of the most violent criminal organizations in the world."

The operation has been a priority for the Trump administration, with recent arrests linked to a violent incident earlier this month.

Video footage released by the Aurora, Colorado Police Department shows armed men knocking on an apartment door, guns drawn.

Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain commented on the incident, saying, "The individuals who had just moved into that apartment complex did not open the door. Had they opened the door? I shudder to think what would’ve happened to them."

The apartment complex has reportedly been the site of multiple alleged crimes, including shootings, a kidnapping, and extortion, most of which are linked to Tren de Aragua.

The FBI has added the alleged leader, Giovanni Vicente Mosquera Serrano, to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

White House Border Czar Tom Homan highlighted the sophistication of the gang, comparing them to a "Fortune 500 company" and stating, "I’m not gonna be satisfied till every member of TDA is eradicated from this country along with MS-13 and other violent gangs."

President Trump previously designated Tren de Aragua as a terrorist organization, a move intended to facilitate the deportation of its members. However, the use of the 1798 law, originally created for wartime, has faced legal challenges.

A federal appeals court is set to review the law's application this week, with the Supreme Court likely to make the final decision.
