(CNN) — President Donald Trump posted a photo on social media Sunday that suggests he wants to rename New Mexico to “New America.”
No caption or explanation was shared alongside the image.
The White House has not announced an effort to rename New Mexico, but the White House reshared the image on X.
While the president has the power to rename geographic landmarks, such as bodies of water, he does not have the constitutional power to rename states. That process would have to happen within the state.
