(TNND) — Israel officials said on Sunday that it expects all the living hostages held in the Gaza strip by the Hamas terrorist organization, to be released on Monday as part of the ceasefire deal.
We are expecting all 20 of our living hostages to be released together at one time to the Red Cross and transported among six to eight vehicles,” Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian said.
U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to fly to Israel on Sunday afternoon to greet Israeli hostages “in person,” Vice President JD Vance said Sunday in an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
Vance revealed the logistics of the exchange saying that Trump intends to “greet the hostages Monday morning, Middle Eastern time, which should be late, you know Sunday night or very early Monday morning here in the United States."
Bedrosian said that they do not expect Hamas militants to conduct the exchanges in the same manner as previous ceasefire rounds.
As far as the hostages are concerned, Bedrosian said after they are freed, they will be driven to a military base to reunite with their families, or, if needed, to a hospital to receive medical attention.
As a part of the ceasefire deal, Israel will release about 2,000 Palestinian detainees and receive the bodies of the 28 hostages believed to be dead. The military is planning a ceremony on their behalf to take place in Gaza, Bedrosian said.
Vance called the release if the hostages a “monumental thing.”
It’s great, of course, for their families,” he said. “But I really do think that it shows what happens when you go outside the traditional failed diplomatic routes and actually try something new.
In a separate interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Vance did say however, that he does not expect Israel will be able to retrieve all the remains of the dead hostages from Hamas.
“I think that we will eventually get most of the bodies, but we won’t get all of them,” Vance said.
According to Israel’s coordinator for the Hostages and Missing Gal Hirsch, an international task force will start working to locate the deceased hostages who are not returned within 72 hours. Officials have stated that the search for the bodies of the hostages, some of which may be under rubble, could take a while.
A specific time frame has not been announced for the release of the Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
After greeting the hostages released from Hamas, Trump will speak at the Knesset, Israel’s parliament and the continue to Egypt where he will co-chair a “peace summit” with regional and international leaders, according to officials.
