GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Two Florida residents were arrested after Grady County deputies say they were caught street racing at more than 100 miles per hour over the weekend.

According to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed two drivers racing on Highway 319 South on Saturday. Authorities said the vehicles were clocked traveling at 101 mph.

The sheriff’s office said the drivers had traveled approximately 161 miles from Jacksonville, Florida, before being stopped in Grady County.

Both drivers were issued traffic citations and taken into custody before being transported to the Grady County Jail, according to deputies.

Sheriff Earl Prince said the incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with excessive speeding and reckless driving.

“At 101 mph, a vehicle becomes more than transportation—it becomes a potential weapon,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Officials noted that higher speeds reduce reaction time, increase stopping distances and leave little room for error, creating dangerous conditions for everyone on the road.

Authorities said the situation could have ended much differently had law enforcement not intervened before a crash occurred.

Sheriff Prince emphasized that reckless driving will not be tolerated in Grady County.

“If you choose to drive carelessly, recklessly, or endanger the lives of others in Grady County, expect to be stopped, cited, arrested, and taken to jail,” Prince said. “We will not tolerate behavior that threatens the safety of our citizens and visitors.”

The sheriff’s office is encouraging drivers to obey speed limits and make safe decisions behind the wheel to help keep local roadways safe.

Anyone who witnesses reckless driving or street racing is encouraged to report it to local law enforcement.
