GEORGIA (WALB) - Two free fishing days are just around the corner for National Fishing and Boating Week.
On Saturday, May 31, and Saturday, June 7, Georgia residents do not have to purchase a fishing license to fish on public waters.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), National Fishing and Boating Week began in 1979. The week is meant to recognize the tradition, spirit, and togetherness of fishing. It also allows this generation of anglers to pass traditions onto the next generation.
“Some of the best days are those spent on the water, whether you decide to make it an all-day adventure on a large reservoir or a short trip to go bank fishing at the local pond,”
Robinson also says enjoying these days and being an active angler helps you connect with family and friends while supporting conservation efforts through the purchase of fishing equipment and boating fuel.
If you don’t know where you can fish, there are several public fishing areas located across the state. Many state parks also offer anglers the chance to get out on the water and enjoy the day.
If you are looking to fish on other days you can find a link to obtain a fishing license here.
