Description
VALDOSTA Ga. (WALB) - The Valdosta Fire Department is warning residents about fire safety after a house fire occurred Tuesday, Jan. 20, on Queen Street.
According to the fire department, crews were dispatched at 12:38 p.m. to a house fire after neighbors heard a smoke alarm activated inside the home.
When crews arrived, they saw light smoke coming from the home. When firefighters went inside, they found fire coming from the stove.
No one was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The fire was determined to be accidental and caused by items left on the stove that caught fire, according to the department.
The Valdosta Fire Department is now urging residents to be mindful of leaving items on or near the stove.
The department says never to place anything on a stove, even during power outages. When power is restored, anything left on the stove will heat up and can lead to a fire.
