ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Further details were released by officials Monday, March 23, after a weekend street racing incident resulted in the deaths of a 4-year-old and 26-year-old in Albany.
According to the Albany Police Department (APD), both victims were standing along the street when the crash happened Sunday just after midnight.
Two racing vehicles reportedly lost control and collided into each other on Krug Street.
Rickey Thomas, 26, and the 4-year-old were struck by the vehicles.
APD’s Chief Persley urged the public to remember on Monday that illegal activities can lead to unintended and deadly consequences.
“What people may deem as a harmless, fun event turned into a tragic situation,” Persley said. “That just goes to show that anything that somebody may deem harmless or eventful, anything can happen.”
Two people were arrested in relation to this incident—24-year-old Brandon King and 25-year-old Jacob Daniels Jr. Both were charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the 1st degree, racing on a highway/exhibition of speed or acceleration and reckless driving, according to officials.
