REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (WSYX) — A technical glitch at Victoria's Secret is causing widespread disruption for the company, its stores, and millions of customers.
The company's website and internal systems went down this week, and there is still no indication of when they will be back online.
Victoria's Secret confirmed to ABC 6 that a "security incident" froze much of its operations.
Brick-and-mortar stores have been unable to process gift cards, rewards, online orders, returns, or Victoria's Secret credit cards throughout the week. The customer service line is not accepting calls with its customer care staff, leaving customers frustrated and uncertain about the status of their orders. Customers visiting the company's website are met with a message stating that Victoria's Secret is working around the clock to resolve the problem.
"Valued customer, we identified and are taking steps to address a security incident," the website reads. "We have taken down our website and some in store services as a precaution. Our team is working around the clock to fully restore operations. We appreciate your patience during this process. In the meantime, our Victoria’s Secret and PINK stores remain open and we look forward to serving you."
“We would just like to know what the problem is,” said a merchandise processor at the corporate office who wished to remain unidentified. “We want to know how soon it is going to be fixed and if it can be fixed.”
Victoria's Secret sent a statement to ABC 6:
We identified and are taking steps to address a security incident. We immediately enacted our response protocols, third-party experts are engaged, and we took down our website and some in store services as a precaution. We are working to quickly and securely restore operations. We continue to serve customers in our Victoria’s Secret and PINK stores.
Employees working in the Reynoldsburg corporate office were notified Monday evening after the Memorial Day holiday to not report to work and stay logged off of their accounts. One staff member expressed concern about not receiving pay due to the ongoing issues.
"We’re concerned if we’re going to get paid for those days off," she told ABC 6. "And if we are going to get our paychecks on Friday."
“I want to know if we are getting paid this week or if we still have a job,” added another employee who works at the corporate office, who also wished to remain anonymous.
Employees are concerned that company and personal data may have been hacked, but say they haven't been told much by corporate.
Corporate representatives have said efforts are underway to "quickly and securely restore operations," but there is no clear timeline for resolution.
Brick-and-mortar stores are still open and accept both cash and cards.
Corporate employees were told they would be notified Wednesday night to see if they should report to work on Thursday.
