Description

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, Sunday marks the beginning of National Women’s Health Week.

The week is designed to educate the public and encourage nationwide conversations surrounding women’s health issues.

So, how do you do that in your community? Below are three primary ways you can contribute to change.

  • Hold public seminars —This month, we can educate our peers on increasing their overall health. You can request a speaker from ADPH’s Wellness of Women Speakers Bureau to come to your event and expound on a specific area of interest.
  • Visit your doctor for a check-up — Studies show 44% of millennials and 51% of Gen Zers are behind on their health appointments. It’s essential to take the necessary steps to preventive care that could save your life.
  • Give to local organizations — Check out non-profits in your area that provide free resources to women. These organizations rely on donations, volunteers, and exposure to further their mission.

Attention to women’s health does not have to be limited to a week. By participating in all three of those suggestions, you can invest in them year-round.

Last but not least, ladies, you are your most significant investment. Get active, get involved, and always let your light shine through by taking care of your body.

You only have one life to live; make it your best one.
