Description
GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A potentially deadly crash was avoided early this morning after a deputy with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office stopped a wrong-way driver on Highway 84.
According to GCSO, at around 3:30 a.m., a deputy observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Highway 84 under dark conditions, creating an immediate and serious hazard for oncoming traffic. The deputy was able to safely stop the vehicle before a collision occurred.
Following an investigation, authorities determined the driver was in violation of the law and did not possess a valid driver’s license or insurance. The individual was taken into custody and transported to the Grady County Jail.
Officials say wrong-way driving is extremely dangerous and can lead to tragic consequences, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is limited.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging motorists to remain alert, drive defensively, and stay prepared to react to unexpected hazards.
WALB has reached out to officials to get the identification of the individual involved in this incident.
