ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - One woman is dead and another is hospitalized after a car accident that happened Thursday night, according to Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler.
At about 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, officers responded to the intersection of Gordon Avenue and Magnolia Street in reference to a traffic crash involving multiple vehicles.
The at-fault driver, Shanice Anthony, 32, was driving a Kia Sportage when she attempted to go around vehicles that were stopped for the traffic signal. This resulted in her striking multiple vehicles including a vehicle occupied by 70-year-old Hazel Favors and her daughter.
Favors was critically injured during the crash, and she later passed away from her injuries at the hospital.
Anthony was arrested on the scene and transported to the Dougherty County Jail. She was charged with:
- Homicide by Vehicle
- DUI
- Serious Injury by Vehicle (2)
- Speeding
- Reckless Driving
- Red violation
- Improper passing on the left
- No Insurance
- Suspended/Canceled Registration
- and several additional charges
The daughter is currently recovering at the hospital.
