Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -During Monday’s commission meeting, Dougherty County commissioners unanimously voted to purchase 10 flock cameras for the downtown Albany area.
Flock cameras have been in other areas of Albany since 2023. These cameras can be used to assist law enforcement in tracking down certain suspects by reading license plates.
Last week, commissioners suggested that the cameras would give law enforcement officers “eyes” on Turtle Park and alert them when there’s any movement at night downtown.
Ken Faust, Major of Operations at the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, says the move will also help keep people safe, especially as more revitalization efforts are made in the area.
Faust said, “We want to make sure that we have constant monitoring of this area so people will feel safe knowing that someone is watching even if they don’t see a law enforcement, there is some type of recording so people will feel safe coming downtown.”
According to Faust, they are also working on increasing patrols in the area.
