COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - There is a lot on most kids plates, but for one local 13 year-old, his plates weigh more than 1,000 pounds.
Nash Earwood, also known as ‘Big Nash’ broke the powerlifting state record for bench press, deadlift, squat and total weight at the Georgia Powerlifting State Championships.
You may remember Big Nash when he unofficially broke the Georgia State record for bench press while training at 4.0 Fitness in August.

Six months later, Nash is officially the strongest 13-year-old in the state of Georgia.
“During the competition and getting set up and everything; it was an amazing time,” hesaid. “Everybody was nice. That’s the one thing I love about powerlifting. I’s just everybody’s there that’s just trying to help you and make you better and give you advice if you need it.
The powerlifting state championships were held in Dalton, Georgia on Feb. 13 & 14. Nash described the moment he became a state record holder.
“It was an amazing feeling because you see your goal get accomplished and you’ve made it.”
Big Nash is not done yet. He’s preparing to compete in the Nationals in Chicago in June to become the strongest 13-year-old in the entire country.
“I like to have competition with other people, you know, it makes it interesting,” he explained. “But like in Dalton, I didn’t really have anyone to go up against, so I was just beating my old self.”
Nash is aiming for 495 pounds on deadlift and squat, plus 270 on bench press. He’ll have support from his coach Terrence Flowers at 4.0 Fitness to help him reach those goals.
“A lot of 13-year-olds that are playing video games, they’re doing what 13-year-olds do. He’s different,” Flowers said. “To me, he’s like an old man in a young man’s body. When he leaves here on the weekend, a lot of times, most kids will probably be going to goof off or have fun with their friends; he’s going to go dig ditches and put up fences and do work helping people in his community. He’s not the typical 13-year-old.
For Coach Flowers, Nash and his parents’ dedication for training holds more weight than anything.
“I would like to give a big shout-out to Big Nash’s parents. You’re looking at a kid who stays in North Columbus, who comes to South Columbus, and he is a nationwide record holder; all right here in East Columbus, straight out of Buena Vista Road. I was raised in this community. This is where my business is at and all are welcome.”
“I never thought about this would ever happen, and it’s just where it’s led me. So, if you put the hard work and get with the right people and stay consistent with it, anything that you want will happen.”
