ADEL, Ga. (WALB) - A 13-year-old girl was flown to an Atlanta hospital Friday, Feb. 6 after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the girl was riding her bicycle on North Gordon Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. when she was struck.
WALB spoke briefly with the child’s aunt, Samantha Johnson, who said her niece is highly autistic and that this incident was very tragic.
According to the report, the child was traveling east from a private drive and attempting to cross North Gordon Avenue when she failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle traveling south on the roadway. The front of the vehicle hit the left side of the bicycle.
The child was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center and then flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. According to the family, the condition of the 13-year-old is unknown at this time.
The Georgia State Patrol investigated the crash at the request of Adel Police Department.
