ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — An 18-year-old Albany man faces a kidnapping charge after an argument with his girlfriend on July 4, Albany Police said.
Albany Police Department says the dispute between Roosevelt Washington and his girlfriend began over childcare. Officers say the argument escalated into physical violence. When the girlfriend attempted to leave, police say Washington put on a ski mask and dragged her back inside the residence.
Injuries documented at scene
When officers arrived, they observed bruises on the girlfriend’s chest and a bruised lip.
“Upon their arrival, they found a female who had several bruises and injuries to her arms and face. They later found that Roosevelt was 18, had assaulted the victim and forced the victim back into the residence. He was taken into custody, interviewed by detectives, and later taken to the Dougherty County Jail,” Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said.
Additional charges filed
Washington was also charged with battery and cruelty to children. Police say the incident occurred with children present. Chief Persley confirmed there were no injuries to the children.
