ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Saturday, July 12, Albany’s Beautillion Club, held its first community service event of the season, where dozens of local teenage boys participated.
The event took place in two parts. In the morning, the club gathered at the Albany Faith Center, where Grill Master Jarrett Frazier taught the boys how to grill various meats. In the afternoon, the club took all of their cooked food to the Albany Rescue Mission, where they distributed it amongst community members in need.
“I think that what the young men are doing and the ties they are making with the community and their commitment to the program is an excellent thing. I think it shows the community that there are people out here who are working with the young people and showing them the right way to go,” said Lisa Love, co-chair of Echelons of Excellence.
The club organizers say they hope the young men participating in the events learn the importance of giving back to the community while believing in something bigger than themselves.
“It means a lot to me because I do have family, and my parents, they came from a struggle, so I understand how it feels to come from a struggle. I’m grateful that God has given me the ability to give back and you know, help my community as much as possible,” Johnny Burroughs III, Beautillion club member.
The grilling class and food giveaway were just one of the many community service events the Beautillion Club will participate in while they work towards earning their rites of passage.
