TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Amtrak is expanding its reach and getting closer to the Florida panhandle.

The passenger rail service is launching its Mardi Gras Service that will run between Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Adult fares start at $15 each way, and service starts August 18.

The new line comes as Tallahassee has seen a renewed push for a passenger train service.

The line between Jacksonville and Tallahassee has been suspended since Hurricane Katrina, but there’s hope that it will return as private and public rail expands in the south.
