ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A man was arrested on multiple warrants after police found him inside a residence where he did not have permission to be, then escaped custody at a hospital before being recaptured in the building’s basement, according to the Albany Police Department.

Officers responded to a home on June 21 in reference to a burglary incident. The homeowner said he had received a call from his neighbor stating that someone was inside of his home.

Officers found a pair of blue jeans and tennis shoes on the front porch. There were no signs of forced entry. The homeowner told police that the doors were locked but the bathroom window was unlocked.

After officers announced themselves, a black male opened a rear bedroom window. When told to show his hands, he closed the window and ran out the front door. Officers took him into custody after chasing him down, and capturing him.

Officers found a wallet and cellphone on the kitchen counter. The ID identified the man as Alexander Brown, 31, of Kentucky. A warrant check showed Brown had four active warrants for probation violation, criminal trespass, terroristic threats and failure to appear for a finger printable charge.

The homeowner told police that Brown was his best friends’ son, but he did not have permission to be inside the residence. The homeowner told police that he did not want to press charges.

Brown was transported to a hospital for evaluation. After being discharged, Brown ran while being escorted to a patrol vehicle. He removed his handcuffs while running and jumped over a guard rail near the rear loading docks.

An officer tased him but it was unsuccessful. Brown jumped over a guard rail and went inside the hospital through an unsecured basement door, according to police.

Officers searched the basement and found Brown hiding behind a chair. He was taken back into custody, evaluated again at the hospital and transported to the Dougherty County Jail.
