ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany State (ASU) homecoming festivities kicked off early Saturday morning in downtown Albany with the annual homecoming parade.

Many different dance groups, bands, kids clubs, local businesses, and more all took part in the parade, bringing positive energy all morning.

This year, there was a noticeable increase in security at the parade with police officers stationed on different corners of Pine Avenue and patrolling the area.

Some community members who were in attendance, like Donna Sims, say this is good for the city.

“Yes, I acknowledged a lot of security all around town, which is a great thing. Hopefully, you know there isn’t any involvement as far as shootings and stuff like that but we’ve come a long way here in Albany,” she said.

There will be increased security and police presence all throughout the day, leading into Rams Fest later tonight on ASU’s campus.

In our later newscasts, WALB’s James Irvin will be live from ASU’s campus with more coverage of this year’s Homecoming.
