Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - An investigation has been launched into a fatal crash on Tuesday evening in Valdosta.

According to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD), first responders went to the 600 block of N. St. Augustine Road after receiving reports of a traffic accident with serious injuries.

When VPD officers arrived, they saw that a 39-year-old man was ejected from a scooter. He was unresponsive, police say. He was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

VPD’s Traffic Unit was called in to investigate. During the investigation, it was found that the man was riding a blue 50cc scooter northbound on N. St. Augustine Road, while a 50-year-old man was driving a green Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound.

The driver of the pickup truck went into the center turn lane to turn left into a parking lot. While turning left, police say the pickup truck and the scooter collided.

The driver of the pickup truck told police that he never saw the scooter.

Police say that the driver of the scooter was taken to a Florida hospital for extensive treatment. On Oct. 16, he died from his injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, police say.

The investigation is still active. At this time, no charges have been filed, VPD said.

VPD urges anyone with any further information on this case to contact Officer Jermaine Johnson with the Traffic Unit at (229) 242-2606, the crime tip line at (229) 293-3091, or file a tip online at www.valdostacity.com/police-department.
