Riley Blount, AT&T Georgia president, said the company has invested nearly $17 billion in Georgia networks over the past five years.

“Today, we’re proud to celebrate that impact,” Blount said. “As president of AT&T Georgia, it’s my privilege every day to wake up with the mission of connecting more Georgians to greater opportunity.”

State officials said faster internet access can fuel economic growth, strengthen education, and expand workforce development opportunities.

“Today’s investment announced by AT&T reaching two million customers means Georgia continues to lead the nation, continues to make progress, and continues to be the number one state for business,” said Bárbara Rivera Holmes, Georgia Labor Commissioner.

Rural connectivity challenges persist

While cities throughout Georgia see expanded access, rural communities in South Georgia still struggle with slow and unreliable internet service.

Expanding service into rural areas comes with challenges, but it remains a priority for small businesses. Mike Gonzalez, CEO of Pro Outdoor LLC, said connectivity is essential for daily operations.

“Day-to-day business operations, scheduling jobs, managing crews, processing payments—connectivity is essential,” Gonzalez said. “Bringing everyone together on the same page is essential. Having this connectivity allows us to focus on what we do best, and that’s serving our clients and serving our community.”

State leaders said closing the digital divide will require continued investment and collaboration.
